Bowie High School students are being urged to speak up by the mothers of victims of gun violence, following the death of an 18-year-old on campus on Wednesday due to a shooting.
Following Tavion Barnes’ fatal shooting, Bowie High School cancelled school on Thursday. Police detectives were back on campus as they resumed their probe, despite Arlington ISD’s announcement that classes would not resume until Monday. Bowie High School was placed on lockdown at 2:50 p.m. on Wednesday following Barnes’ shooting outside close to a makeshift classroom structure.
After providing authorities with a description of the suspected shooter, a person who fit that description was discovered remaining on campus close to the baseball field around 20 minutes after the incident. That person was later identified by the police as being 17 years old.
Julian Howard, who is currently being held, is accused of one count each of homicide and controlled substance possession. However, no weapon has been found.
Mothers who can relate to what happened were led to the school by the most recent gun violence death.
Outside the school, the founder of the group Mothers of Murdered Angels said, “Another mother has lost a loved one through gun violence.” “I’m out here strolling the sidewalk with other moms and supporters because of that.”
In 2018, Hamilton’s daughter was killed, and in 2020, her grandchild.
“She’s gone,” declared Hamilton. “At that point, you are lost. You’re not finding yourself.
In order to guide people through what she has experienced, Hamilton founded the organization.
Students should make sure they speak up, Hamilton urged.
Hamilton remarked, “You see something, say something.” even if the bullying isn’t directed at you. Say something when you see it because it might save a child’s life. Because no one individual or organization can accomplish what we need to, we can all work together.
The reason Arlington police don’t know what before the shooting is because Howard won’t talk to detectives, officials claim.
