Currently serving as Red Bull’s chief technical officer, Newey joined the company in 2006.

The Red Bull vehicles that have won seven drivers’ championships and six constructors’ championships are all his creation.

In a statement, Newey said, “It has been my great honor to have played a key role for almost two decades in Red Bull Racing’s progress from upstart newcomer to multiple title-winning team.”

But I think this is a good time to pass the reins to someone else and look for new challenges for myself.

“It has been a real privilege, and I am confident that the engineering team are well prepared for the work going into the final evolution of the car under the four-year period of this regulation set.

For months, there have been rumors that Newey might be leaving after a scandal involving Christian Horner, the team principal.

An employee’s allegations of workplace misconduct against Horner surfaced in the weeks preceding this season.

An investigation cleared the Red Bull CEO, but it seemed to stoke division among the group.

Superstar driver Max Verstappen and his father Jos are reportedly not happy with Horner’s leadership, according to a number of reports.

It’s known that Horner and Newey are close, and some sources claim their contracts include provisions allowing them to both leave in the event that the other does.

Thirteen championships and twenty years later, he departs as a real legend.

Verstappen’s future with Red Bull is now in doubt due to Newey’s exit.
